Whatsapp whatsapp!

My friend in Singapore recently introduced me to what I think is a very important application that we all need to install into our smartphones to save on text messaging (specially international ones). It's called whatsapp.

If you're already familiar with Blackberry Messenger, then this will not be foreign to you. Here's a short description of the application via http://www.whatsapp.com/

WhatsApp Messenger is a smartphone messaging app which allows you to exchange messages with your friends and contacts without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is cross platform and available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Nokia (beta) and yes, those phones can all message each other! To send and receive messages, WhatsApp utilizes your existing smartphone internet data plan: 3G/EDGE (or Wi-Fi when available)
In addition to messaging, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry WhatsApp Messenger users can send each other unlimited images, video and audio media messages.

I've already downloaded whatsapp to my blackberry. You get a 90-day trial period for it and if you like it, you'll have to fork out US$ 1.99 for it. Pretty cheap if you ask me for something that will give you unlimited messenging service.

Whatsapp only works between smartphones who have this program installed so make sure you ask your friend to download the program as well.

For blackberry, you can download it here: http://www.appworld.blackberry.com/

For android, you can download it here: www.whatsapp.com/android/
